A kind of dislike

You know those thing you just hate in life? Like getting up late on an important day, or stepping in dog poo? Well, house shopping isn't quite that bad I suppose. It is more like those annoyances that happen day to day that creep up on you and combine to become a major annoyance the next time they happen. For example, stepping in mud...not so bad unless you step in another pile of mud the same day. Or when your husband leaves his knife on the counter instead of putting it in the dishwasher... not so bad the first time but tends to get old after a few years. Or, from his end, when your wife asks for your opinion and then doesn't take it... after a while you just suggest that she no longer ask! Well house shopping is kinda like that. It is however a little exciting at first, then annoying, then a huge pain in the butt. It was fun at the beginning, looking through all the web sites. Then visiting the homes and pointing out how some people arrange their furniture and laughing at wallpaper.. well that is the fun stuff. The crappy part is when you go into home after home after home and see some elements of what you would like in a house, but not seeing the major items all put together. Maybe our list is a bit longer than most people's but we are confident we will get what we want even if it means that we have to build one! (also a possibility at this point).

The Basics
- 3 bedroom
- 2 bath (minimum)
- updated kitchen
- garage

Sarah's Wish List
- space for my piano
- carpet in bedrooms
- ideally not having to repaint
- cupboards that fit my plates (seriously this has been a problem)
- ensuite and walk-in closet in master
-open floorplan

Dave's wishlist
- big garage
-open floorplan
- some sort of lawn
- big garage
- big garage
- big garage

We have found some places that are SO close to what we want. A few have been close to the electrical corridor so we don't love that. Another was older and needed two floors of flooring replaced, and another had a small kitchen. These were not singular problems about the properties, but the largest problems.

Lets hope that the house hunt gets more productive before the prices go up too much!!

Fun! House shopping is one of my favorite things ever! It doesn't sound anything our experience though. The first home we purchased - we bought pretty much the only thing we could afford - but were insanely lucky to get into the market. And with the second house, again, we bought the only thing we could afford that didn't make our realtor say, "Sorry, I can't sell you this house with a good conscience. If you want it you'll have to find another realtor". That was when we moved to Camrose, and at that point there were only 5 for us to even check out.

I really hope you find what you're looking for. And I hope we get to do that next time too...

The market is a very crazy thing! What a gong show!

I always think it is funny when our realtor goes really quiet when she goes into a house... then she wrinkles her nose! That is how we know it has her disapproval!
